Former Sun Glo owner George Crapo dies

Prominent Idaho potato producer George Crapo died Sept. 4 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 82.

Crapo, of Parker, Idaho, started hauling potatoes for local growers in the early 1960s. He started Crapo Trucking in 1968.

In the early 1980s, Crapo bought into Sun Glo, which was started by five potato growers in 1974. In 1999, Crapo bought out the other partners of Sun Glo to make the company solely Crapo family-owned. Sun Glo grows and ships thousands of acres of potatoes every year.

In 2010, Crapo was awarded the Idaho Grower Shippers Association’s Russet Aristocrat award. He was inducted into the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1998.

George’s son, Cade Crapo, is currently the owner/manager of Sun Glo. Daughter Jill Crapo Cox is the vice president of sales.
