This weekly report comes from the National Water and Climate Center and other agencies. The report focuses on seasonal snowpack, precipitation, temperature and drought conditions in the U.S. It was issued Nov. 24.
The Western U.S. continues to experience moderate-to-exceptional drought, according to the latest Drought Monitor report. Recent rainfall has helped to begin alleviating some of the water deficit in the Northwest, but severe drought remains for the rest of the region.
Although it is too early to predict the upcoming winter weather, above-normal rain and snow are needed to replenish the reservoirs, lakes, rivers and soil moisture in the area.
Back-to-back drought years in California have been the driest on record. Water managers are looking to the upcoming winter snow, water storage and conservation efforts to lessen drought impacts into the coming year.
