The Maine Potato Board (MPB) has selected Shawn Doyen as the 2013 Young Farmer of the Year. Doyen and his wife, Christi, have two children, Taylor, 7, and Charles, 3. They live in Mapleton.
Shawn works at Willard C. Doyen & Sons Farm, the farm that his grandfather Willard started and run by his father Ross, and his uncles, Keith and Bill
Shawn has been a member of the Maine Potato Board for five years and is currently serving as vice president. He is also on the Board of Selectmen in Mapleton.
Shawn represents the blend of traditional values, superior work ethic and forward thinking that the Maine potato farming industry thrives upon. His commitment to excellence speaks volumes about his character and his dedication t the future of the Maine potato industry. Shawn’s involvement in his community as well as the industry exemplifies the qualities of the Young Farmer of the Year and we are proud to honor him with this title,” said Don Flannery, executive director of the Maine Potato Board.
