Washington potato crop estimated at 106 million hundredweight

Washington’s 2018 potato crop is expected to yield larger numbers than a year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Northwest Regional Field Office reported.

Estimations have the crop at 106 million hundredweight (cwt), which is an increase of 7 percent. A total of 165,000 acres were harvested, up by 1,000, leaving the average yield at 645 cwt per acre, which would be up from 605 a year ago.

Washington is the second-largest producer of potatoes in the U.S. behind Idaho.
