Jul 17, 2025Study finds consumers’ love for potatoes remains strong
For the ninth year in a row, Americans named potatoes as their favorite vegetable, while french fries ranked as consumers’ favorite side dish when dining out.
Those are some of the findings of the 2025 Consumer Attitudes & Usage study. The online survey, conducted annually to gauge attitudes toward foods — potatoes in particular — was conducted in February and included results from 2,000 respondents balanced to current census data on gender, income and age, according to Potatoes USA.
The study (.pdf) also found that 81% of respondents eat at least one serving of potatoes per week.
Respondents ranked the reasons they love potatoes, with spuds’ versatility taking the top spot, followed by the vegetable’s filling qualities.
While the study found a strong belief in potatoes’ nutritional benefits, those who did not eat more potatoes listed reasons including perceptions that spuds are high in carbohydrates and fattening.
