Feb 11, 2026Royal HZPC Group finalizes acquisition of Irish seed potato company
Royal HZPC Group has finalized its acquisition of IPM Potato Group. The move was first announced in October 2025.
“We warmly welcome the IPM team and look forward to building on the strengths of both organizations,” a statement on Royal HZPC Group’s website read. “This acquisition supports our strategic ambitions and further strengthens our position in the global potato industry.”
Founded in 1950, IPM Potato Group is a market leader in seed potato breeding, production and export in Ireland. The company imports to 40 countries through a grower network in Ireland, Scotland, France, the Netherlands and England.
IPM has also collaborated with Teagasc, Ireland’s national institute for agri-food research and education, for more than 50 years.
“This announced collaboration within Royal HZPC Group opens up new opportunities for growth together with our customers and growers,” IPM Potato Group director Marcel de Sousa said. “Our conversations show that our visions for the future of our sector are closely aligned. At the same time, we maintain our own identity and direction. We see this as a valuable opportunity and look forward to building a strong future together.”
Founded in 1898, Netherlands-headquartered HZPC offers potato varieties optimized for local growing conditions and exports to more than 90 countries.
The IPM acquisition expands HZPC’s total acreage by 1,800 hectares (4,448 acres), primarily in Scotland, Royal HZPC Group CEO Hans Huistra said.
“Combined with our strong position in England, the addition of Scottish acreage further strengthens our presence in the United Kingdom,” Huistra said.
This collaboration also opens doors to new markets and export opportunities, especially in key growth regions such as North Africa.”
