‘World’s largest potato on wheels’ is on the road

The Idaho Potato Commission is celebrating its 75th anniversary by taking what it’s calling the “world’s largest potato on wheels” on a seven-month cross-country tour.

The Great Big Idaho Potato Truck made its national debut at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho, last December. Since then, the truck has made several public appearances.

Now it’s on the road, carrying a larger-than-life version of the vintage Idaho potato postcard. Weighing in at 6 tons (that’s equivalent to 32,346 medium-size potatoes), the truck is making stops in communities across the U.S. Besides greeting the public and building Idaho potato awareness, the trek is helping raise money for the Meals on Wheels Association of America.

After the tour is over, the truck will be back on home turf in Idaho to celebrate the 2012 harvest at Shelley Spud Days, as well as participate in other events around the state.
