Washington state truckers getting a break on weight restrictions

The Washington State Potato Commission led the charge to get truckers a break on weight restrictions in that state.

A bill passed in the state House of Representatives will allow drivers to exceed weight limits by up to 5% twice in a calendar year before being ticketed, reported the Capital Press. The House passed the bill by a vote of 94-3.

It now returns to the Senate, where it originated. The initial version allowed for drivers to exceed weight restrictions four times before being ticketed. The Senate will have to approve the revised version, but Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima — the bill’s sponsor — told the Capital Press he accepts the changes.
