U.S. export volumes rose for both fresh and frozen potatoes from July 2024 to June 2025, while total export volume declined 3.75%, according to U.S. Department of Commerce data compiled by Trade Data Monitor.

Total export volume dipped to 3.1 million metric tons (fresh weight equivalent), while the total value of U.S. potato exports decreased by 0.8% to $2.3 billion from July 2024-June 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to the data.

Frozen potato exports, which represent 49% of total U.S. export volume, rose nearly 2% compared to the same period last year. Fresh potato exports rose by more than 1% and accounted for nearly 20% of all U.S. exports.

A drop in dehydrated potatoes, which fell 14.4%, and potato chips, which fell 13.4%, drove the overall decline in export volume. Seed potato exports also decreased by 2.1%.

The six largest U.S. potato export markets in the time period — Mexico, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines — accounted for 77% of total U.S. exports.

In 2025, the global market share of the six largest exporters was as follows:

  • European Union: 44%
  • Canada: 20%
  • United States: 18%
  • China: 13%
  • Argentina: 2%
  • India: 2%
