Feb 26, 2025Syngenta seeks US registration for new pest control option
Global agricultural company Syngenta is seeking U.S. registration for a new active ingredient, isocycloseram, which the company says will help manage insect pests in vegetables, tree fruit crops, cereals, cotton and more.
Isocycloseram, which will be trademarked as PLINAZOLIN technology, is expected to be available as several different insecticide products, according to a news release.
“This technology will roll out in multiple phases, with the first offering corn, cereal and pulse growers a solution for early season pest management,” Kevin Langdon, Syngenta technical product lead, said in the release. “With pests becoming more difficult to manage, this active ingredient will provide growers with an important new option in their integrated insect management plans.”
Isocycloseram will provide feeding cessation by contact and ingestion, according to the release. The novel active ingredient’s use in IRAC Group 30 will provide growers with a new resistance management option, according to the company.
Upon EPA registration, products containing PLINAZOLIN technology will be sold under the following brand names:
- Equento: an insecticide seed treatment intended for use in cereals and pulses that will manage wireworms and other early season, below-ground pests and will offer compatibility with other seed treatments.
- Opello: a liquid, at-planting, soil-applied insecticide intended for use in field corn that will provide control of corn rootworm and other below-ground pests in a formulation designed to offer tank mix compatibility with starter fertilizers.
