Sustainability alliance, weight loss in storage among SpudWeek webinar series topics

SpudWeek — a free three-day webinar series on potato-related topics — is coming the last week of June.

Launched in 2021, SpudWeek is comprised of three interactive one-hour webinars, each with a different focus. This year’s webinars are set for 2 p.m. ET | 11 a.m. PT Tuesday through Thursday, June 28-30.

Potato Sustainability Alliance: How it is progressing

Featuring Potato Sustainability Alliance (PSA) Executive Director John Mesko. Formed in 2020, PSA joins all facets of the potato industry — from growers to processors to crop protection specialists — to further the industry’s quest to be sustainable. Mesko will share updates on how that’s being done and field some questions from the audience.

Managing Potato Weight Loss in Storage

A large portion of potatoes spend more time in storage than they do in the ground. Weight loss during that period can be caused by a variety of reasons, but the end result is still the same: product and economic loss. Ragen Darrington of Industrial Ventilation (IVI) will present on how to manage and minimize potato weight loss while in storage.

Roundtable Discussion: Hear from some of the top researchers in the U.S.

Some of the top potato-focused university researchers in the U.S. join us to discuss some topics of their choice, as well as field some questions from the audience. Our guests will include Amanda Gevens of the University of Wisconsin, Andy Robinson of North Dakota State University and Mike Thornton of the University of Idaho.
