Dec 3, 2025Soilborne diseases to be major focus of Idaho Potato Conference
The 58th annual Idaho Potato Conference is set for Jan. 21-22 in Pocatello. The two-day event is hosted by the University of Idaho.
Discussion topics will include soilborne diseases, with the first day of the conference featuring a session examining disease biology, control and management; the role of potato variety selection in verticillium wilt; and causes of early die complex.
A panel discussion will examine powdery scab and potato mop-top virus, while another panel will evaluate biological control products for disease management.
Irrigation issues are also on the agenda, as are potato storage advances and policy insights.
Guest speakers include University of Wisconsin entomologist Russell Groves on aphids; Washington State University potato specialist Mark Pavek on potato varieties and agronomy; and Oregon State University Extension soil fertility specialist Amber Moore on how soil conditions influence potato yield, quality and fertility.
