Salinas Biological Summit showcases biological innovations

A new event is designed to showcase biological solutions that are available to fruit and vegetable growers to enhance soil and plant health.

The Salinas Biological Summit, set for June 20-21, at California State University-Monterey Bay’s Salinas City Center, is presented by Western Growers and New Zealand-based agrifood tech consultancy Wharf42. It will highlight opportunities for use of biologicals and the disruptive science and start-up activity lead by innovators in the crop protection space, according to a news release from Western Growers.

“This is an incredibly important and timely summit that focuses on an area that needs much more attention, planning and coordination of next-gen tools so we can ensure bountiful production of horticultural crops so critical to health and nutrition,” California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross, who will speak at the start of the event, said in the release.

“For Western Growers members, biologicals have become a significant issue,” Dennis Donohue, director of the Western Growers Center for Innovation and Technology, said in the release. “The 2023 Salinas Biological Summit will provide the platform to share knowledge, insights and best practices to address the opportunity.”
