Nov 1, 2023Pulsed Electric Field technology partnership to focus on potato processing
Global freezing and cooling equipment provider FPS Food Process Solutions has partnered with OptiCept Technologies to develop, research, produce and commercialize Pulsed Electric Field technology for solid food processing.
The partnership will begin with potato processing, according to a news release.
PEF processing is a non-thermal food processing technique using short, high voltage pulses. These pulses induce poration of plant, animal and microbial cells, leading to cell disintegration and microbial inactivation.
“The agreement with FPS is a strategic breakthrough into the solid food market. It opens a cost-effective solution for OptiCept to enter this large, established market significantly faster and to a greater extent through this deep collaboration,” Thomas Lundqvist, CEO of Swedish-headquartered OptiCept Technologies, said in the release.
PEF generators will bring a range of products to FPS customers worldwide, according to the release.
“In a rapidly changing industry, our goal is to meet and exceed the growing needs of not only the potato processing sector but for the food sector as a whole. Our goal is to combine leading PEF technology with market leading food processing solutions,” Jeffrey Chang, FPS Food Process Solutions Corp. president, said.
Founded in 2010, FPS Food Process Solutions has more than 900 employees and 780,000 square feet of space in 19 locations, including its Canadian headquarters.
