Projection for Idaho potato crop yield-per-acre would be best of all-time

If projections are correct, potato acreage in Idaho will prove to be more efficient in 2018 than ever before.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Northwest Regional Field Office estimates the Idaho crop at 139,000,000 hundredweights (cwt), and, with 315,000 harvested acres, the yield-per-acre figure of 440 cwt per acre would be a record.

The total crop would be a 3 percent increase from 2017. Five thousand fewer acres were harvested last year.

Idaho is the top potato-producing state in the U.S.
