Feb 6, 2025PotatoEurope conference to focus on integrated crop management
PotatoEurope 2025, set for Sept. 3-4, will include a newly announced international conference focused on integrated crop management.
“Integrated Crop Management — The Future of Potato Farming,” organized by event host Wageningen University & Research (WUR), will zero in on innovative strategies to make potato farming more sustainable, resilient and profitable.
Leading experts and researchers will share insights on integrated crop management (ICM), which aims to minimize the use of synthetic inputs while enabling farmers to grow healthy crops.
“ICM is not just about advanced integrated farming tailored to future environmental demands,” Peter Kromann, a WUR researcher, said in a news release. “It’s smarter farming and more profitable farming.”
The conference will take place Sept. 3 in Lelystad, the Netherlands.
Topics will include the role of crop diversity in reducing pests, diseases and weeds as well as the effect of variety selection and cultivation on potato crop health, tuber quality and yield.
The conference will also highlight innovative soil, water and nutrient management approaches along with the efficacy of targeted pest control methods.
According to the release, 80% of the exhibition space at PotatoEurope has been sold.
“This demonstrates the need for an outdoor event that combines knowledge transfer with practical demonstrations,” Kuno Jacobs, director of event organizer DLG-Benelux, said.
