Potatoes USA executive committee visits Red River Valley

The Potatoes USA executive committee visited Red River Valley potato farms earlier this month to learn about challenges and opportunities in North Dakota and Minnesota.

The five-day agenda included a visit to North Dakota State University, where potato breeding research was showcased.

Committee members also toured farms including Hoverson Farms, Hall’s and Black Gold Farms in North Dakota and Dagen Heritage Farms, R.D. Offutt Farms and Ewing Farms in Minnesota.

The visit also included a trip to Shearer’s Foods chip production facility as well as outreach events.

The Red River Valley grows about 13% of the nation’s potato acres, produces 2.6 billion pounds of potatoes annually and employs nearly 6,000 people in the two states, according to Potatoes USA.

For three years, members have visited regions of the country to connect with growers, learn about issues they face and provide updates on how Potatoes USA is strengthening potato demand.
