North Dakota potato grower Richard Clemenson of Hoople, North Dakota, former chair of the Red River Valley Potato Growers Association, died Feb. 26 at age 84.

Clemenson served as chair of the organization, now Northland Potato Growers Association, from 1984-85 and received its meritorious service award in 2010.

Clemenson was born April 17, 1941, in Grafton, North Dakota. He attended Fertile Township and Walsh County Ag School in Park River, before earning a degree in agricultural economics at North Dakota State University.

Clemenson married Ruth Sletten on July 31, 1971, and they spent 54 years together on a seed potato farm in rural Hoople.

He also held positions on several boards including Walsh County Farm Bureau, Nash Grain and Trading, National Potato Board and Zion Lutheran Church.
