New PEF technology has potato processing applications

FPS Food Process Solutions and OptiCept Technologies have launched new Pulsed Electric Field technology with potato processing applications.

The OptiCEPT Solid Series system combines hygienic design and robust construction with next-generation PEF technology, according to a news release.

Applications include:

  • Softening: reduce cut force, smoother cuts
  • Drying: reduce drying times and associated energy consumption
  • Extraction: improve extraction yield and quality, decrease extraction times
  • Freezing: reduce freezing times and associated energy consumption

“Our technology has shown tremendous strides, making an impact in high quality extraction such as olive oil and juices, reduced drying times for vegetables, and most notably, ensuring smooth, clean cuts for the french fry industry,” Thomas Lundqvist, OptiCept Technologies CEO, said. “We are already seeing significant opportunities in various food categories and welcome new and innovative ways to work with customers on their sectors.”

“Industries are shifting to better ways to process food for higher yield, higher quality, yet looking for ways to reduce food waste and increase sustainability,” Jeffrey Chang, FPS Food Process Solutions Corp. president, said in the release. “Our goal is to provide our customers options in making quality products for consumers worldwide.”
