Michigan State University Extension will hold a summer irrigation workshop focused on improving irrigation efficiency on Aug. 1.

The event, to be held at the Kellogg Biological Station, will feature hands-on demonstrations, expert presentations and field tours.

Key topics will include:

  • Soil texture testing (bring your own sample)
  • Irrigation system uniformity
  • Sprinkler selection
  • Irrigation scheduling tools
  • Variable rate irrigation
Attendees will also learn how to interpret evapotranspiration data and use both mobile and web-based irrigation scheduling tools to make better-informed management decisions.

A mini trade show will highlight irrigation technologies, and participants can join a roundtable discussion on the future of irrigation in Michigan.
