Fourth-generation potato grower Main Farms has been chosen by the Michigan Vegetable Council as its 2023 Master Farmer.

The 15,000-acre farm in Six Lakes, Michigan, grows more than 100 million pounds of potatoes, storing them on-site for chip processing.

Paul and Joan Main, along with children Dan and Joe, also grow corn, soybeans, wheat, peas and green beans, according to the farm’s LinkedIn page.

The Main family received the award at the annual Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market Expo banquet Dec. 6 in Grand Rapids.

The vegetable council named Rebecca Grumet, a professor in Michigan State University’s Department of Horticulture, as its Master Farmer Associate of 2023.

Grumet’s research focuses on fruit development and disease resistance in cucumber and melon crops.
