Sep 17, 2024Michigan Potato Industry Commission mourns the passing of Erwin Styma II
Erwin Joseph Styma II, a well-known Michigan potato farmer and community leader, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 14, 2024. He was 56.
The Styma, a co-owner of R&E Farms, played a crucial role in the potato industry, working alongside his family to expand Styma Potato Farms, which ships potatoes across the Midwest and Eastern U.S.
His contributions to the variety assessment of potatoes for northern growers were recognized widely, Michigan Potatoes stated in a recent email.
“His passing leaves a significant void, not only in the industry but in the lives of all who had the privilege of working alongside him,” said Kelly Turner, executive director of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and the funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. To view the full obituary and details on the service, visit Hentkowski Funeral Home’s website.
