Michigan potato grower and industry leader Larry Young died Oct. 22. He was 86.
Born in Howard City, Michigan, Young began farming after graduating high school in 1956 with his dad at R&L Young Farms, which eventually became Sandyland Farms, according to a statement from the Michigan Potato Industry Commission (MPIC).
“Larry Young’s passing is a profound loss to the potato industry. He was a tireless advocate for leadership development, playing a pivotal role in establishing the Potato Industry Leadership Institute,” Kelly Turner, MPIC executive director, said in the statement.
“His vision and dedication have shaped generations of leaders, ensuring the future of the industry remains strong and vibrant. His legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.”
Visitation and funeral services will be held in Six Lakes, Michigan, on Saturday.
