Mexico trucking comment period opens

On April 13, the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a notice for comment in the Federal Register that is an important step in the resolution of the ongoing North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) dispute involving long-haul trucks from Mexico. The notice initiates a 30-day public comment period on the Obama Administration’s proposed “Pilot Program on NAFTA Long-Haul Trucking Provisions” that will eventually allow Mexican long-haul trucks to enter the US according to the obligations of the 1994 free trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada. Currently, the US allows Canadian trucks to cross its border, but not Mexican trucks. For more information and to submit a comment press here.
