On April 13, the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a notice for comment in the Federal Register that is an important step in the resolution of the ongoing North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) dispute involving long-haul trucks from Mexico. The notice initiates a 30-day public comment period on the Obama Administration’s proposed “Pilot Program on NAFTA Long-Haul Trucking Provisions” that will eventually allow Mexican long-haul trucks to enter the US according to the obligations of the 1994 free trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada.
