McCain Foods to Build Facility in Pacific Northwest

McCain Foods Limited has announced that it will invest $150 million (Canadian) for the construction of a new plant in the Pacific Northwest, according to a press release. The facility will be designed to produce french fries and potato specialties primarily for foodservice and quick-service restaurant customers in the United States and in international markets.

“Our presence in the Pacific Northwest positions us very well for U.S. domestic and international growth,” said Dale Morrison, president and CEO. “The region is ideally suited for our business with optimal potato growing conditions, an established grower community and a low-cost distribution source point for overseas markets. The investment we are making reinforces our commitment to our core business and signals our confidence in the growing demand for McCain products in the U.S., and in new and emerging markets.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008 pending final approvals. Start-up of the facility is anticipated for late summer 2009.
