Haun Potato Co. to cease operations after nearly 54 years in business

After nearly 54 years in business, Haun Potato Co. will cease operations at the end of December.

Second-generation owner David Haun shared the news in a Dec. 6 email to customers and industry friends, it was reported by The Produce News. Haun Potato is based in Lenexa, Kansas, just outside Kansas City.

David Haun purchased the company from his father, Richard Haun, in 1990. Richard Haun, nicknamed “Spud,” founded the business in 1965. He died in 2016 at the age of 91.

David Haun plans to retire, he said in the email.

In 1982, Haun Potato donated a truckload of potatoes to the Salvation Army to help feed area families around the holidays. The company has continued that tradition every year since.
