Growers see yield benefits with V+M Solution

Nematodes and diseases can wreak havoc on the most promising of potato crops. A focus on nematode control to increase root health is one way to keep potatoes healthy all season long, but comes as a challenge to most growers because they can’t always see the pests feeding and infecting their crop. Enter the V+M solution, which offers nematode suppression with added disease and insect management in a unique solution from Bayer.

The solution brings together the wide-spectrum nematicidal activity of Velum Prime with the sustained in-season nematode protection of Movento. The use of these two proven products together recharges and extends current nematode management programs for higher yield and quality leading to a more profitable crop.

Growers should continue their current fumigant treatment with an early-season application of Velum Prime, followed by two sprays of Movento to provide season-long protection. Third-party trials show marketable yields were increased by 82 cwt./A with the V+M solution compared to competitive programs.

“With the introduction of Velum Prime and the successes for growers last year, we are excited to offer growers an integrated, in-season nematode management solution,” said Joel Lipsitch, Bayer product manager. “The V+M solution is easy to handle. It can be integrated into existing crop-management systems, and the combination of nematode and disease management benefits of Velum and the insect management benefits of Movento create additional value for growers,” continued Lipsitch.

Velum Prime is effective against a wide range of target potato nematode species. It also offers suppression of early blight and white mold, has a favorable safety and toxological profile and can be applied by overhead chemigation. It protects root health leading to higher yields.

Movento provides added nematode protection through convenient, in-season applications that improve crop quality and return on investment. Juvenile nematodes exposed to Movento can no longer continue to develop, and populations are decreased.

“We’re not only providing nematode and disease control, but we’re also providing growers with the confidence that they’re helping maximize yield and increase ROI,” said Lipsitch.
