A press conference by eight foundations launching AGree, a new initiative designed to transform and impact food and agriculture policies on global scale, was held on Tuesday, May 3, in Washington, DC at the National Press Club.
The initiative, funded by the Ford Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The McKnight Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and The Walton Family Foundation.
Leaders of the initiative include: Dan Glickman, secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1995 – 2001 and a former congressman from Kansas for 18 years; Gary Hirshberg, chairman, president and CE-Yo” of Stonyfield Farm; Jim Moseley, an Indiana farmer for more than 40 years and a former deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture under George W. Bush; Emmy Simmons, former assistant administrator for Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade at the U.S. International Development and a board member for several organizations engaged in international agriculture and global development.
