Gale Easterday of Easterday Farms dies in car crash

Gale Easterday, a prominent potato and onion grower in the Columbia Basin, died from injuries sustained in a car crash on Dec. 10. He was 79.

According to a report by radio station 610 KONA, Easterday was the driver of a pickup that struck a semi truck on I-182 in Pasco. No other injuries were reported.

Easterday spearheaded the growth of the family farm, Easterday Farms, started by his father, Erwin, from a few hundred acres to more than 20,000 of potatoes and onions, as well as a large cattle operation. The company also has a packing facility in Florida.

Gale Easterday gave way to his sons, Cody and Cully, in recent years, although Gale still held the title of senior farm manager.
