Frito-Lay plant plans to lay off 88 workers

Layoffs at a Frito-Lay potato chip manufacturing plant in New York’s Hudson Valley will begin in August, affecting 88 on-site employees.

The layoffs are happening because of economic reasons, according to a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) filing dated May 29.

A total of 305 workers are employed at the plant at 79 Industrial Place in Middleton, New York, according to the filing. The employees are not represented by a union.

Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, has more than 30 potato chip manufacturing sites in the U.S. Its portfolio includes Lay’s, Cheetos and Doritos.

The company accounted for close to 30% of PepsiCo’s 2023 net revenue of $91 billion, according to Just Food.
