French grower finding success with seaweed-based fertilizer

Seaweed is proving to be an alternative fertilizing aid for farmers, including some potato growers.

Farmers Guardian, a UK-based agriculture-focused publication, recently highlighted Olmix, which specializes in algae-based products. It included a case study on Fabien Bocher, a farmer in northwestern France who grows potatoes, winter wheat, corn and a few others.

Bocher told Farmers Guardian he’s had good results from using Olmix’s Explorer biofertilizer, which contains seaweed-derived extracts. Boucher has been able to reduce seed rates by about 20 percent, he said.
