Fledging potato chip company Roots Chips has been approved to open a small production facility in Bingham County, Idaho.
According to the Bingham New Chronicle, Roots owner Ladd Wahlen was approved for a permit to open a 40-by-60-foot production facility near Aberdeen. Roots Chips are made from potatoes grown at Wahlen’s fourth-generation family farm in Bingham County, according to the Roots website.
Wahlen tested and produced the first batch of Roots Chips at a facility near Boise. The chips were sold online and distributed to a few retailers in Idaho Falls and Blackfoot.
Wahlen told the Bingham County Planning and Zoning Commission that the chips made at the new facility will be “organic, kettle cooked and made from Idaho potatoes,” according to the New Chronicle report.
