Construction underway at $55M potato chip production plant

Construction has begun on the $55 million, 80,000-square-foot Taste of Maine Potato Chip Co. facility in Limestone, Maine. The plant, located at the former Loring Air Force Base, is scheduled to begin production next spring.

The production facility will initially operate with four kettles, producing approximately 100,000 eight-ounce bags of kettle-cooked potato chips daily. The plant has the capacity for up to eight kettles as demand increases.

Plans for the facility at the 3,800-acre Loring Commerce Center industrial park were first announced last February. The plant is expected to employ up to 100 people and process more than 1,500 acres worth of locally grown white and russet potatoes, according to The County online newsletter.

Developers also plan a $2.5 million solar garden next to the production plant, according to the Bangor Daily News.
