AMVAC completes ChemChina product acquisitions

AMVAC Chemical Corporation has completed the acquisition of three crop protection product lines – abamectin, chlorothalonil and paraquat – from Adama Agricultural Solutions Ltd., which is part of the China National Chemical Corporation (“ChemChina”) group. These product lines were sold pursuant to the terms of a consent decree from the FTC, as a condition for that agency’s approval of the ChemChina/Syngenta merger. The acquisition includes the trademarks, product registrations, registration data, and commercial information that relate to the marketing and sale of these three product lines in the crop protection market within the United States.

Abamectin is a widely used insecticide for the control of insect and mite pests of a range of agronomic, fruit and vegetable crops. In potatoes, it is used to control Colorado potato beetle, leafminers, potato psyllid and spider mites.

Chlorothalonil is a broad spectrum, non-systemic fungicide that is used on potatoes and many other crops. The potato diseases it is used for are black dot, early blight, late blight and botrytis vine rot.

Paraquat is a commonly used herbicide in potatoes for a variety of weeds including kochia, lambsquarters, marestail, morninglory, ragweed and volunteer wheat.
