Albaugh aquires Rotam in crop protection merger

Albaugh, a crop protection product provider, has completed an acquisition of Rotam Global AgroSciences.

The acquisition by the Ankeny, Iowa-based Albaugh creates a leading global crop protection company with total sales exceeding $2 billion in all regions of the world and a strong manufacturing base comprising plants in the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Slovenia, China, Taiwan and India, according to the release.

A global leader in crop protection products, the Hong Kong-based Rotam does business throughout the world, including in North America, Latin America, China and Asia, Australia and Europe. Rotam’s products include herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, growth regulators and plant nutrition.

Albaugh offers a broad portfolio of crop protection products, with plants in St. Joseph, Missouri and in Chihuahua, Mexico. Other plants are in Argentina, Brazil and Slovenia. Following the merger, Albaugh plans to offer “a very broad product portfolio to service our customers and farmers, and a substantial market presence in all the major agricultural markets globally,” the company said in the release.

Albaugh is a privately-owned U.S. limited liability company founded by Dennis Albaugh in 1979. The deal’s successfully closing was announced in a May 2 news release.

Rotam helps growers maximize their farm’s potential economically across a range of crops, regions and needs, according to the release. It has several products approved for use on potatoes.
