Agristo becomes newest member of Potato Sustainability Alliance

Belgian potato processor Agristo, which broke ground on its $450 million North Dakota processing facility July 7, has joined the Potato Sustainability Alliance (PSA).

PSA, an inclusive collaboration of potato value chain players, helps define measure and advance potato sustainability using robust metrics to drive improvements in productivity and profitability. Its efforts are focused on protecting the environment and streamlining how farm-level data is collected and distributed.

Agristo joins area processors J.R. Simplot, Cavendish Farms and Lamb Weston in PSA. Other local memberships include Northland Potato Growers Association, Black Gold Farms and RDO.

Agristo’s Grand Forks facility was announced in January 2025, and site preparation began that October.

“Agristo is focused on sustainability by processing every potato grown by our farmers, from the small-sized spuds to the biggest U.S. No. 1 potatoes, while at the same time maintaining the use of drylands for our crops,” Jochem Rovers, Agristo head of Agro International Development, said in a statement.
