Acquisition joins pair of processing equipment providers

Two potato processing equipment providers have joined forces. Global freezing and cooling equipment company FPS Food Process Solutions has acquired Oregon-based GEM Equipment, known for products including fryers and blanchers.

The acquisition will allow food processors access to more solutions from blanching to freezing with custom-built, end-to-end french fry and specialty potato lines, according to a news release.

“As part of the acquisition, GEM Equipment will have access to new global markets and a wider, more diverse range of products and industry sectors,” Chris Imdieke, CEO of GEM Equipment of Oregon Inc., said in a news release.

Established in 2010, FPS has a combined 640,000 square feet of space in 16 locations. Headquartered in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, FPS has manufacturing, warehouse and sales facilities across six continents, according to its website.

“This acquisition provides additional value to existing and new customers,” Jeffrey Chang, president of FPS Food Process Solutions Corp., said in the release. “Since acquiring Charlottetown Metal Products in PEI and Total Solutions Ltd. in New Zealand, we have grown the FPS family to serve domestic and global markets.

“With GEM Equipment, our enhanced product portfolio provides customers confidence in making FPS their partner of choice for all their food processing needs.”
