Revolutionizing nitrogen-fixing bacteria in potatoes and other crops
Azotic’s answer to boosting yields and improving the environment
(Sponsored) Developing and commercializing the use of sustainable nitrogen in agriculture, Azotic™ continues to revolutionize food production methods across the globe. For nearly 20 years, the company’s North American management and scientific team (based in the UK) have made significant advances in agricultural science. Azotic has revolutionized nitrogen-fixing bacteria, helping growers reduce production costs while protecting their environments.
Benefiting growers of various crop types, including potatoes, Envita® offers an affordable amendment to synthetic fertilizers. According to Azotic, the science behind Envita inoculates plants with food-grade bacteria, “creating a symbiotic relationship between the seed and the bacteria, allowing almost any crop to fix its own nitrogen and boost yields while relying less on nitrogen fertilizer.”
As defined by Azotic, “Envita is a naturally-occurring, food-grade bacteria — Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd), originally discovered in sugarcane. (Envita) provides nitrogen to cells throughout the plant, both above and below ground, all season long.”
Sales Representative for Azotic, Scott Bishop, encourages growers to implement Envita in their application process because of its many benefits and return on investment (ROI).
“Azotic’s focus is yield and ROI, which we consistently succeed at the field level,” Bishop said. “Envita is a product that produces yield in a sustainable way. It is also very economically attractive to the grower and easy to use.”
Bishop explains that Envita can be applied through furrow or post-emerge foliar. The product also mixes well with other crop protection products — making integration easy and flexible for growers. Bishop also notes that Envita is unique in the fact that growers can apply it to many different crops, including corn, soybean, wheat, rice, and of course, potatoes.
Once Envita is applied and works its way through the crop, it begins capturing nitrogen from the air and consistently makes it available to the crop throughout the season.

“Potato growers who have used Envita have seen their crops less affected by dry conditions between irrigation timings. Through the use of Envita, growers see the yield increase as well as a quality increase — a very important factor to all potato growers,” Bishop said. He continued, “Azotic is continually learning new things about Envita and how it can best benefit growers.”
Growers across the world are showing their excitement for Envita and what it can do to improve growers’ farms and how it can positively impact the environment.
“I encourage potato growers to begin integrating biologicals into their farming practices. Envita is a great place to start because of its ease of use, flexibility of application and yield enhancements,” Bishop said.
Global Product Manager for Azotic, Tom Tregunno, notes that Azotic’s ultimate strategy is building trust and good relationships with retail partners and agronomists to show the world how beneficial Envita is.
“Our product, Envita, consistently shows a positive ROI for growers, especially potato growers,” Tregunno said.
According to Tregunno, when looking at 3.2 fluid ounces/acre, growers often see a 10x ROI increase on potatoes.

Tregunno knows the importance of ease of use when it comes to application processes and products. Growers want a product they can already integrate into their system – Envita perfectly fits these needs.
“Envita is very flexible and works across a lot of different application methods,” Tregunno said. “Potatoes are our big focus for not only the United States but also around the world. Our ROI and application use results have been really encouraging and prove how beneficial Envita is to growers. Ultimately, we want to give growers more tools and more options in the field.”
