A Focus on Quality
Soil extraction system saves growers time, money
(Sponsored) Manufacturing a wide variety of food processing equipment since 1998, Southern Fabrication Works (SFW) designs and builds custom equipment to fit any grower’s needs. SFW has powerful technology and equipment ranging from complete washing and drying systems, augers to tote dumps, sizers and more.
Offering customizable design and layout capabilities, SFW has an in-house engineering department — ensuring every machine is the perfect fit for the consumer. With SFW’s SolidWorks software, equipment and the overall layout can be seen in 3D for final approval before construction begins.
One of SFW’s most cost-saving pieces of equipment is the soil extraction system. This machine can help with settling ponds, clarifiers and other waste water systems by separating the solids and extruding them as a semi-dry waste product — easily being conveyed. The soil extraction system leaves a small carbon footprint, using low horsepower while conserving energy and water consumption.
SFW owner and CEO, Neil Justesen, is confident in SFW’s ability to satisfy the consumer’s needs — ranging from customer services, installation, quality and more.
“Southern Fabrication Works put a lot of effort into quality, food safety and high manufacturing standards,” Justesen said. “We’re also very zoned in on saving power and overall energy and water consumption.”
Cost-saving benefits at a glance
– Pumping dirty water long distances
– Wear and tear on pumps and piping
– Expensive clean-out of pits, clarifiers, and other water treatment systems
– Man-power (fully automated)
– Water consumption
– Power consumption
Specifically, the soil extraction system reduces water and power consumption — saving the consumer time and money.
“We noticed an issue a lot of growers were having — many of them were spending too much time, energy and money on expensive equipment to separate waste products during extraction,” Justesen said. “We developed the soil extraction system to remove the heavy solids out of the water, while reusing the same water, all at a low cost. Our system has proven to save growers time and money.”
General Manager of Rigby Produce in Rigby, ID, Bryan Mickelsen, has noticed significant cost-saving benefits since installing the soil extraction system.
According to Mickelsen, Rigby Produce has cut their fresh water usage by nearly 50 percent – significantly reducing the cost of washing potatoes and treating wastewater.
Mickelsen has worked with SFW for several different projects and has always been satisfied with the quality and service
“Southern Fabrication Works always makes us feel comfortable with the products and services they provide. They were knowledgeable and worked well with us while designing and installing equipment,” Mickelsen said.
