Horneck building dedication

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Don Horneck Memorial building will be held at 10:30 a.m. PST Wednesday, July 8, at Oregon State University’s Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center (HAREC).

Phil Hamm, HAREC station director, said that the 1,700-square-foot building will house three insect-rearing facilities, a tissue culture room, an agronomy lab and an equipment room. He said that one-third of the building cost was provided by private donors.

It will support the research we do here and the clientele that we serve,” Hamm said.

Horneck was an Extension agronomist at HAREC. His special interests included soil fertility, crop production, ammonia volatilization and biomass. He died unexpectedly on Sept. 28, 2014.
