Compass Minerals to sponsor two potato webinars this fall

Join us this fall for two FREE webinars sponsored by Compass Minerals.

Potassium Fertilizers for Potatoes: A Head-to-Head Comparison — November 30 at 2 p.m. ET
Potassium is widely regarded as a nutrient critical for healthy potatoes. It promotes hearty growth and provides the strength potatoes need to better resist drought and disease. In this 60-minute webinar, Larry Murphy, Ph.D., discusses the role of potassium in plant physiology and covers why sulfate of potash fertilizers are more effective than other K sources, including muriate of potash. He will also review relevant agronomic research on potassium and explain why many growers are switching to Protassium+™ as their preferred K fertilizer.

About the Presenter: Larry Murphy, Ph.D., has spent his career in agricultural research and education. In 1965, he joined the faculty of the Kansas State University Department of Agronomy, where he was responsible for teaching and researching soil fertility and fertilizer technology.

In 1978, Murphy was appointed as Great Plains director for the Potash and Phosphate Institute (PPI since has been integrated with the Potash and Phosphate Institute of Canada to form the International Plant Nutrition Institute), where he supervised PPI’s research and education programs in nine states. After ten years, Murphy became vice president of PPI, acting as director of research and coordinator of North American programs. He was promoted to senior vice president in 1989 and served in that position until 1996.

Since 1998, Murphy has been an active consulting agronomist as president and owner of Murphy Agro in Manhattan, Kansas working primarily with product development.

The Right Micronutrient Tools for Potatoes — December 7 at 2 p.m. ET
Soils in most potato-growing regions have needs for micronutrient fertilizer applications. Understanding which micronutrient fertilizer sources can provide the nutrition a crop needs – when it’s needed – can have an impact on yield and quality at the end of the season. In this webinar, we will review:

  • The agronomic requirements of potatoes at key crop development stages
  • The benefits of soil micronutrient applications
  • Trial results from independent, third-party studies
