Public comment period opens for Simplot’s Innate potatoes
The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has made available for public comment its plant pest risk assessment and draft environmental assessment of J.R. Simplot’s Innate potato varieties.
The Innate first generation varieties have been engineered for reduced black spot bruising and reduced potential for acrylamide formation.
Simplot is seeking a determination of nonregulated status from APHIS for the first generations of its genetically engineered Innate Russet Burbank, Ranger Russet and Atlantic varieties.
Simplot’s Innate technology isolates genetic elements and rearranges or links them together to suppress or enhance certain traits in the potato variety.
