NPC outlines concerns with EPA draft insecticide strategy

The National Potato Council joined 13 state organizations submitting comments to the EPA outlining concerns with the agency’s draft insecticide strategy involving endangered and threatened species.

NPC’s comments focused on the “chaotic nature” of the draft strategy, according to a statement, as well as the “potential jeopardy the draft Insecticide Strategy places on growers, including the mandate for farmers to work through a flowchart for every application of every chemical applied to every field on their farm throughout the growing season.”

NPC noted that on some farms, “this could literally be hundreds or thousands of times that growers would need to work through the flow chart process.”

NPC said it is continuing to work with the EPA to provide clarity for growers to comply with the enforcement of the Endangered Species Act around pesticide use.

The organization’s full comments are available here (.pdf).
