McCain investing more than $370M in French production sites

McCain Foods is investing more than $377 million in three production facilities in France to bolster its competitiveness in the French and European markets.

The Canadian-headquartered global frozen potato product manufacturer announced the investment on Linked In following French president Emmanuel Macron’s visit to McCain’s production site in Matougues, France, last week.

“This significant investment will be distributed across our three production sites in Harnes, Bethune and Matougues, demonstrating our long-term vision for growth and sustainability in France,” Max Koeune, McCain Foods president and CEO, said in the Linked In post. “This will drive a 25% increase in production capacity, ensuring we can continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers and consumers.”

McCain currently produces 600,000 tons of finished product in France, which will increase to approximately 750,000 tons after the investment, to be completed by 2028, according to a Just Food online article.

Around $325 million of the investment will increase packaging capacity at the Harnes plant, established in 1981 as McCain’s first facility in France, according to the article. The Harnes site will also be outfitted with a new potato sorting and storage area and a new production line.
