Colorado grower, former NPC president, Tom Ford dies

Tom Ford, 81, of Carmel, Colo., died on June 25 of an apparent heat attack in East Wenatchee, Wash. Ford was traveling to the National Potato Council’s summer meeting in Walla Walla, Wash when he died. He had farmed in the San Luis Valley for more than 50 years.

Ford was National Potato Council (NPC) president in 1986. John Keeling, CEO and executive vice president, said that Ford had been very active in the NPC.

He was a good, solid guy with a tremendous commitment to the industry,” Keeling said.

Ford was a member and past president of the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee. He was inducted into the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2008.
