Jun 9, 2016Valley Agronomics breaks ground for fertilizer plant
Valley Agronomics held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new fertilizer distribution center on June 8, with Idaho Gov. C.L. Otter in attendance.
The plant is located next to the J.R. Simplot Don plant, which produces phosphate fertilizer in eastern Power County, near the Pocatello city line.
The first phase of Valley Agronomics’ plant is scheduled for completion in spring 2017. The center will receive and distribute dry and liquid fertilizers.
Sid Jensen, project manager for Valley Agronomics, said that the distribution center will be 51,000 square feet and can hold the contents of 260 railcar hoppers.
The largest of the nine bins will be able to hold the contents of 100 rail cars.
The center will be able to unload a 100-ton rail car in 7 and a half minutes.
Richard Lloyd, vice president of Valley Agronomics, said the plant’s initial investment is $10 million, and it will employ 50 full-time and seasonal employees.
