Using Priaxor and Endura to fight potato disease

At BASF, it is our goal to help growers get the most out of each of their acres,” said Jennifer Holland, U.S. crop protection marketing at BASF.

In order to do that, the company has spent countless hours developing a “robust potato portfolio” containing two valuable fungicides: Priaxor® and Endura®.

“Priaxor is a dual mode of action solution that provides more consistent and longer lasting disease control,” Holland said. “It is a disease management tool for potato growers looking to control rhizoctonia, black dot and early blight.”

“We advocate that growers use Priaxor as part of their planned and comprehensive disease management program,” she said. “For the control of early blight and black dot, 4 to 6 fluid ounces per acre is the labeled rate.”

Much like Priaxor, Endura should be added to all growers’ pest management toolbox.

“Endura is the highest performing and most proven tool for controlling white mold in potatoes,” Holland said. “Endura can be applied by ground, air and chemigation providing the greatest level of application flexibility.”

According to Holland, applications of Endura should start near row closure or when the potatoes have their first flower.

“The standard rate for white mold is 5.5 ounces per acre, although higher rates up to 10 ounces per acre are labeled and used in some areas,” Holland said. “An adjuvant is commonly recommended to maximize coverage and white mold control. In high white mold pressure areas, two applications are commonly used for maximum control.”

Combining the two — Priaxor and Endura — helps protect potatoes and ultimately increases yield.

“Using Priaxor fungicide in-furrow at planting for Rhizoctonia suppression, prior to row closure for black dot control, or after row closure for early blight control in combination with Endura fungicide for white mold control, or other fungicides throughout the season with different mode of action, growers have an excellent fungicide toolbox to use to maximize yield and quality,” Holland said.
