Dec 3, 2009USDA Releases Specialty Crops Data
On Nov. 30, USDA released two supplements to the 2007 Census of Agriculture, one focused on specialty crops and the other on farm and ranch irrigation.
According to the specialty crops publication, this is the first time USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has published census data specifically for specialty crops. The 2007 data is summarized at both the national and state level.
The federal government defines specialty crops” as “fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits and nursery crops (including floriculture).” Maple syrup also was included.
The full Census, covering the entire spectrum of U.S. agriculture, was released in February.
