U.S. supports Japan’s inclusion in TPP

U.S. potato industry leaders welcome the Obama Administration’s announcement that it supports the inclusion of Japan in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade talks.

The inclusion of Japan in TPP will be a tremendous boost for the U.S. potato industry, which currently ships one-fourth of its exports to that country,” said Randy Hardy, National Potato Council vice president of trade affairs and owner of Hardy Farms in Oakley, Idaho.

Members of the TPP include the United States, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. All countries currently participating in TPP negotiations must agree to allow Japan TPP membership status.
