Syngenta scholarship winners

Graduate student Kelsey Hensley of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and undergraduate student Linda Millet of Oregon State University, are the inaugural grand prize winners of the national Syngenta Agricultural Scholarship essay contest.

Hensley and Millett each received $1,000 in regional awards and an additional $6,000 national scholarship.

Hensley’s essay focused on the need for more classroom-based programs in high schools and middle schools to encourage environmental awareness. Millet’s essay focused on educating the public through after-school outreach programs.

Five additional students were awarded $1,000 regional scholarship awards. Recipients included Emily Buck, University of Tennessee; Emma Likens, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Konstantin Divilov, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Marissa Horton, Cornell University; and Michael Attanasi, University of California, Davis.
